OUR STORY.
The Curious Cafe History.
The Curious Cafe has not always been a cafe. For 65 years the cafe had been a butcher shop owned by two brothers who established it in 1904. In the late 1960’s the butchers then got sold and renamed The Square Deal Shop, which was an antique and second hand shop. It remained as this for 20 years. The shop was then renamed The Dallimores Gift Shop and in 1996 it became The Donovans Ladies Hairdressers. Since 24th March 1997 the shop became a cafe, firstly called The Curious Tea Shop, serving teas, snacks and light lunches. It then had the outdoor space transformed into a courtyard and an outside eating area. In 1999 the name changed to The Curious Cafe.
The Curious Cafe Today.
The cafe has been within our family for over 16 years now. Linda bought the cafe in and worked with her daughter Gemma who became manager for over 10 years. Then in 2017 Gemma bought the cafe from her mum. Now Gemma and her daughter Chloe run the cafe together. The cafe has come such a long way since it first came into our family and we continue to grow and improve. We now have an amazing team who work really well together and even though we may not be blood related we do see ourselves as one big family.
